Japan [TOKYO] Diaries 1- 2: 白髭のシュークリーム工場 | Shiro-hige’s Creampuff Factory
Tired from our walk through Shimokita, we wanted lunch, and the Shirohige Cream Puff Factory was within walking distance from the main street of Shimokita.
So despite our tiredness, after a half an hour walk, we found the cafe tucked away in a small quiet lane, with only a small signboard overshadowed by trees indicating our successful arrival to the destination. In a way though, this gave a very ghibli-esque mystery to the cafe.
The moment we walked in, there were little elements (like this) of Totoro everywhere. But I don’t want to spoil it too much so here’s just one photo~~ haha.
On the bottom floor is the ‘shop’, a small bakery selling the cream puffs, as well as other ghibli-themed baked goods. It is very un-Japanese inside.. more like the bakery from Kiki’s Delivery Service (so it’s hella cute).
The second floor is a very average but reasonably priced italian cafe/restaurant. We had lunch here, and ordered the cream puffs as desert. (the cafe is usually quite crowded… we had to wait around (if I recall correctly) an hour for a table. So… we found another cafe in the area and had a snack (pancakes) ((I don’t recommend doing this bc a) its very very filling, and b) moneys, but still, if second breakfasts can be a thing then second lunches can also). Then wondered around the area to kill time. Just to enhance the ghibli-esque surroundings, we discovered a small mysterious shrine nearby…
Anyway, after finally getting a table and eating the pasta… It was time
We each got a different ‘design’/headpiece. It was really hard to eat… because they were too cute to destroy.. but we did it anyways ~
